One of the finest products of Chinese philosophy and culture, Tai Chi is based upon the principles of the I Ching (Book of Changes) and the philosophy of Yin and Yang. Tai Chi is a soft, flowing exercise practiced by over one hundred million people worldwide. It is a system of rounded, balanced movements to be practiced daily for health and peace of mind.

Clinical studies have shown the practice of Tai Chi can lower blood pressure, reduce nervous tension, and benefit the immune, digestive, cardiovascular and respiratory systems. The principle and objective of Tai Chi is to teach one to know oneself and to improve one's well being both psychologically and physically. It also improves one's sensitivity and increases awareness of one's environment.

Tai Chi is offered at the Academy for people of all ages and abilities. Classes are taught by Janet Makaris.
