I was first introduced to Chinese martial arts when I took some introductory courses in Hsing Yi Chuan while I was in college. I enjoyed the philosophical background the Chinese martial arts had that other schools I visited seemed to gloss over. After moving to Vermont in December of 1998 I started taking courses at the Vermont Kung Fu Academy.
My academic training is as a biologist/naturalist, and I like how the Chinese martial arts derives many of its moves and forces from the natural world. These 2 areas of my life mesh together very nicely and I have found that each has lent greater insight into the other. As a naturalist and martial artist I am enjoying the symbiosis of the 2 disciplines.
